Interview with Jessemey Bank from JASANA
I love hearing people's stories and what makes them come alive, so each month I will be catching up with inspirational people and the brands we collaborate with to find out what Wild means to them, How they find their wild, their self-care routines and the things they do to set their souls on fire. Today I am catching up with this wild beauty from New Zealand. I met Jessemey a few years ago when Sofia was a baby. I was instantly inspired by her energy and her free spirit. Jessemey is a Yoga teacher and owner of Jasana Wellness Studio located in the countryside of Dairy Flat, New Zealand, about 45 mins from Auckland. She began this journey after many years working as a model in New York City. This goddess has many talents and I absolutely love her Wellness Philosophy, I'm sure you will too.. Enjoy!
What does Wellness mean to you?
Wellness to me is bringing awareness into your own body and learning how to heal yourself from the inside out. It is listening to your own truth and intuition of what your body, mind and soul needs. It is not only about eating well, it is a entire philosophy. How you treat yourself, understanding your emotions, keeping in balance and finding a life that you dream of living.
What started you on your Wellness journey?
I was living in New York working for five years in the fashion industry and started to feel a change in who I was as a person. I wasn’t fulfilled in my career and I started noticing how obsessed the world is with how they look (in an un natural way), how many people had some form of anxiety and how much I craved nature!
What are your 3 non -negotiables? Things you do daily for your health and wellness?
I always do some form of meditation, I love kundalini meditations they work on certain aspects of your life that you would like to change or improve. I eat three meals a day (preferably vegan) but do still eat meat sometimes if it’s fresh and organic. I try to prepare those meals myself. Some form of exercise mainly yoga, walking and sometimes the gym!
Tea or coffee?
Hmmm I love coffee, but I have trained myself to only have coffee on special occasions. I like a good chai latte or a refreshing green tea.
What do you do to ‘find your wild’?
I am always quite wild, I have a lot of energy. I like to sing, dance, surf and be with friends.
Describe your perfect day?
Waking up naturally to the warmth of the sun, meditating, having a beautiful healthy breakfast. Hanging with my boyfriend, reading my book laying on a beach somewhere, writing down new ideas and goals, swimming, going for a surf, exploring new places, eating fresh fish and ending the day with a unplanned dinner party with friends and family.
What is your favourite, quote, poem, piece of advice?
Travel light, live light, be the light, spread the light. Yogi Bajan.
The purpose of life is to watch and experience living. To enjoy living every moment of it. And to live in environments which are calm, quiet, slow, sophisticated, elegant. Just to be. Whether you are naked or you have a golden robe on you, that doesn’t make any difference. The ideal purpose of your life is that you are grateful great and full - that you are alive and you enjoy it. Yogi Bajan.
What are your fav indulgences?
Massage, laying in the sun, drinking an iced latte, travelling, eating good food and meditating!!!
What are your plans for the coming year? Anything you want to share?
I’m very excited to be off to India in November to do my 300 hr yoga teacher training. I will be in Kerela the South of India. Here I willdeepen my teaching and practice by learning more philosophy, Ayurveda and yoga therapy.
